When I wrote on Mastodon today calling on Mr. Schiller, who is the head of the App Store, I knew I had to link it here.
Why did I call him out, though? For allowing Twitter (“X”, which I refuse to call it because nobody does) to continue existing on their storefront despite breaking Apple’s own guidelines (sections 1.1 and 1.2 apply, which include numerous subsections and I’m sure I’m missing quite a bit in this brief post) following the changes to the block function to make it no longer work properly.
Elon Musk did a literal Nazi salute in public and went on to make jokes about it, and fired a guy who criticized that. This sort of thing cannot be excused by anyone, let alone Apple. Apple has always publicly stood for diversity, equality, inclusion of those underrepresented by our ass-backwards system. Continuing to excuse this behavior goes against your company’s ethos, and is unlike the Apple I’ve come to know. It’s absolutely disappointing to see.
So I ask you Mr. Schiller, please put your foot down. And to Mr. Joswiak, please cease advertising on Twitter. This is not a company, nor a billionaire, you want to support. Full stop.
If my readers feel the same, I encourage you to write Apple expressing your feelings. They listen, and we need to be loud about it.
