Excited for Xbox Insiders to try out Copilot for Gaming on mobile very soon. This experience puts players at the center–helping you pick up where you left off, learn new strategies, and connect more easily with friends.
That’s what Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming (who oversees Xbox) said on Bluesky. Frankly, I think they should scrap it. Copilot remains wildly unpopular with Windows users–who are moving back to Windows 10 in small few percent waves–what makes them think it will be popular with Xbox users?
Trone David wrote an excellent piece for Inverse, and said:
What we’ve seen of Copilot for Gaming so far feels like another weird set of solutions for problems that don’t really exist. While games could always stand to be more approachable for newer audiences, I don’t think AI is best suited to solve those issues. I’d be much more interested to see how developers and fellow players craft new ways for the medium to be more inclusive, as many (including Xbox) have already been doing for years.
I agree. Look, I’m only just now in the modern era of Xbox–I got two Xbox One consoles from one of my friends from high school. I didn’t ask for AI, I don’t want it, and I’m sick of companies shoving it into absolutely everything. Xbox is meant for games and entertainment. This is a huge waste of resource, period.
