From TikTok on Twitter, via The Verge:
We’re enhancing ways for our community to continue using TikTok by making Android Package Kits available at http://TikTok.com/download so that our U.S. Android users can download our app and create, discover, and connect on TikTok.
It’s important to state up front that even though TikTok is doing this to circumvent the Play Store on Android — if the law takes effect fully after the period of time given by the President, the app will no longer be allowed to operate at all in the United States. Service providers such as Oracle won’t be able to provide services to ByteDance (the owner of TikTok, Lemon8, and more), meaning the app would be slow at best even if it continued operating after such time.
Apple and Google remain unlikely to restore the app to the App Store or Play Store anytime soon. See Apple’s dedicated support document here. Google Play currently displays an error message when searching for ByteDance owned apps, including TikTok.
