When opening Google Wallet today, I noticed that a CVS membership barcode was moved up to the list so it was right underneath the top carousel. For context, I added this card years ago (in the Google Pay era).
According to the article’s author, Abner Li, selecting the prompt brings you to the CVS website to upgrade the ExtraCare membership to a higher tier (as of writing, that’d be ExtraCare Plus.) It’s safe to assume CVS is one of the first few to implement the new upgrade pass feature that Google added support for in a Play System Update back in October 2024.
I think this is neat, and Google getting any closer to Apple’s excellent Wallet app is great. Both for competition, and for users. I say bring it on, and keep it coming!
