Perhaps the most common question I’ve received since writing my last essay. I’ll just state up front that I have definitely been putting a lot of thought into it over the last couple days, and I think I can safely write that — at least for the next bit, while my carrier looks into what went wrong — the answer may end up being yes. I continue to maintain that RCS is a requirement for me to continue using an iPhone, and not having it has already caused problems for group chats and other text threads.
I do actually super appreciate the contacts I have at my carrier now who have been working all day every day to try and figure out what’s going awry with the RCS activation process. While there hasn’t been that much of an update yet, I think we’re getting closer. I’m just unsure how much longer I can wait for that, seeing as it has been nearly a month without this feature now.
The issue with switching is just app purchases. I use Ivory for Mastodon, Apple Music, and a bunch of iOS exclusive apps (or apps that are just plain better on iOS), so leaving is difficult. I don’t know what I’ll do about those…
We’ll see what they find. Maybe it’s just a config issue. Until then, I’m going to consider jumping ship until there are some updates. I’ll let you know what I do on Mastodon/Bluesky!
